BULETEDAN DENTAL FLOSS PICK is an oral hygiene tool used in conjunction with brushing to clean the spaces between teeth and the adjacent surfaces of teeth. It helps remove food debris and dental plaque that a toothbrush cannot reach, preventing interdental caries, gingivitis, and periodontal disease.
I. Preparation before use
1. Wash hands: Thoroughly wash your hands with soap and running water to avoid introducing bacteria into the interdental spaces.
2. Select the dental floss pick:
• Material: Choose BLTD high-molecular fiber (such as nylon or polyester) floss, which is smooth, less likely to break, and does not fray.
• Thickness: Select a thinner floss for narrow interdental spaces and a medium thickness for wider spaces or those prone to food impaction, based on your personal needs.
• Handle: Choose a style with a comfortable grip, anti-slip or curved design, and one that is easy to reach the back teeth.
3. Environment: Perform the operation in a well-lit area with a mirror to facilitate observation of the oral cavity.
II. Correct usage steps
1. Hold the dental floss pick
Grip the handle of the floss pick with your thumb and index finger, like holding a pen, to maintain stability and control the direction and force.
2. Slide into the interdental space
• Position the end of the floss against the interdental space at a 45-degree angle and gently slide it in. If you encounter resistance, gently rock it left and right and slowly insert it. Do not force it down.
• You can start practicing with the wider interdental spaces of the front or back teeth and gradually move on to the tighter spaces.
3. Clean the tooth surface (C-shaped wrapping method)
• After the floss is in the interdental space, press it tightly against one side of the adjacent tooth surface to form a "C" shape around the tooth.
• Start from 1-2 mm below the gum line and move the floss up and down 4-6 times to remove plaque and food debris.
• Clean the adjacent surface of the other tooth in the same interdental space using the same method.
4. Clean each tooth
• Clean all teeth in a fixed order, such as from left to right in the upper jaw and from right to left in the lower jaw, to avoid missing any.
• After cleaning 1-2 interdental spaces, rotate the floss pick to use a clean section or replace it with a new one to prevent transferring debris to other spaces.
5. Clean the back teeth area
• When cleaning the back teeth, open your mouth slightly and use a mirror to observe. Adjust the angle of the floss pick if necessary to ensure full contact with the adjacent surfaces of the molars.
6. Post-use treatment
• After cleaning all interdental spaces, rinse your mouth with water to wash away the debris and plaque scraped off.
• The dental floss pick is a disposable item. Discard it after use and do not reuse it to prevent cross-infection of bacteria.
III. Frequency and Timing of Use
• Frequency: It is recommended to use dental floss picks at least once a day, preferably after dinner or before going to bed, in combination with brushing to thoroughly remove plaque and debris from between teeth.
• Timing: Dental floss picks can be used before brushing to clean the interdental spaces first, and then brush to enhance overall cleaning effectiveness.
IV. Precautions
1. Gentle Movements: Throughout the process, movements should be gentle to avoid excessive force or vertical pressure, which may damage the gums.
2. Bleeding Gums: Slight bleeding may occur during the first use or if there is gum inflammation. Generally, it will improve after a few days of correct use. If bleeding persists, it is advisable to consult a dentist to check the periodontal condition.
3. Special Populations:
• Children: It is recommended that children use dental floss picks under parental supervision to avoid swallowing or injury.
• Orthodontic patients, those with dental implants, gum recession, or diabetes, etc., should choose specialized dental floss picks or adjust the usage method under the guidance of a dentist.
4. Contraindications: It is not advisable to use dental floss picks if there are large interdental spaces, obvious gum swelling and pain, or exposed tooth roots. Consult an oral doctor first.
5. Storage: Dental floss picks should be stored in a dry and well-ventilated place to avoid moisture. It is better to choose individually packaged products for better hygiene.
V. Common Questions
• Will dental floss picks cause the interdental spaces to widen?
No. The thickness of dental floss picks is much smaller than the normal width of interdental spaces. Correct use will not cause the spaces to widen.
• Can dental floss picks be reused?
No. Dental floss picks are disposable items. Reusing them increases the risk of bacterial cross-infection.
• What should I do if the dental floss pick keeps breaking?
If it breaks frequently, there may be problems such as cavities, tartar, or overhanging fillings. It is recommended to visit the dental department for an examination as soon as possible.
Summary: Dental floss picks are important tools for daily oral care. Correct use can effectively prevent interdental caries and periodontal diseases. It is recommended to use them at least once a day, in combination with the Bass brushing technique and regular oral check-ups, to maintain oral health.
