1. The Function of Dental Floss: Why is it Indispensable?
Dental floss's primary function is to effectively clean between teeth, where a toothbrush can't reach.

Removing Plaque: Plaque is a colorless, sticky film of bacteria that adheres tightly to the adjacent surfaces of teeth. Dental floss mechanically "scrapes" this plaque through physical friction, preventing interproximal tooth decay (proximal caries) from the root.

The "thread" is typically made of monofilament or multiple strands of fine nylon, Teflon, or other materials. It is thin enough to slide into narrow spaces between teeth, yet strong enough to withstand friction without breaking. To use, gently slide the floss between teeth using a sawing motion. Then, close to one side of the tooth, scrape from the deepest part of the gum sulcus (do not apply pressure to the gums) toward the occlusal surface. Repeat this process 4-5 times. Then, clean the other side of the same gap.

The "stick" provides a base for your fingers to apply pressure, allowing you to more precisely and effortlessly control the angle and force of the floss into the gap.
